Creating a Visual Timetable Using Word - Step by Step Approach
Step 1 - Open Microsoft Word and select Insert - Table, drag over 3 columns and 5 rows.
Step 2 - Use the square on the bottom right (Fig 1) to pull the table down the page and increase the size of the rows/cells.
Step 3- Click and hold the crosshair, (circled, top left) then drag down the page a little to make room for the title "Visual Timetable" (Fig 1)
Step 4 - Click in the first cell of the table, Note the new blue toolbars on top - Table Design and Layout. Select ALL cells and click Layout in or to centre align as shown in Fig 2. The cursor WILL flash in the middle of the cell when you click in the first cell (not until then).
Step 5 - Add in times in first column and actions in the second column as Fig 3. After each entry click tab key - top left of keyboard, to move on to the next cell. Note that Visual Timetable has also been added as a heading - as mentioned in Fig 1.
Step 6 - Add the images for each of the cells in the third column. Firstly, click in the third cell. Click - Insert Picture, Online Picture - see Fig 4 below.
Fig 4
Step 7 - Type in "get up, cartoon" in the search box. Select one of the options. These are all licence free images - so fine to use. See Fig 5 below. Don't be put off by the huge change in the table cell - just reduce the image by grabbing the corners as shown in Fig 6. You will notice that there is a line of text at the bottom of some images (such as this one). You should click on this text (Fig 7) and press delete on the keyboard - top right corner. This will reduce any problems later.
Fig 5
Step 8 - When the image is fully resized, ensure you click the "Wrap Text" as shown and select "Tight" - you should do this will all images in Word to make it easier to move text around them.
Step 9 - Copy the image to the other cells in Column 3. as shown in Fig. 8. Click on the image in the second row, right click then and click Change Picture as shown - from Online Sources...(Note: this option will not be present if the text under the image is not deleted before being fully shrunken to fit the table cell). Now, search for a suitable image for "eat breakfast, cartoon" and likewise for each of the other cells........
Step 10 - Save the completed visual timetable by clicking on File, Save As, filling in the name in the box as in Fig 9.
